After years of going to doctors complaining of a range of symptoms, I finally got a diagnosis. Multiple Sclerosis. It wasn’t really a shock to me; MRIs going back about 5 years have flagged it as a possibility, but now I know what it is, I really need to take a step back and start looking after me. Currently that involves yin yoga (when I can make it), being firmer about no work outside work, and changing my diet. There is a lot of anecdotal evidence that removing gluten, dairy and legumes from your diet improves the symptoms of MS. Essentially this is a paleo diet. There are things I’m really going to miss, breakfast cereal and Starbucks being at the top of the list, but even if it doesn’t make the MS any better, at least it will still be good for me.
I am an avid crafter (knitting is my primary vice). I love animals, love to travel and am not good at slowing down. There is always so much I want to do and I don’t like taking no for an answer, even from myself. I do think this is a better way to be than just giving in and believing I can’t do things. If I did, I never would have run a marathon, climbed half dome, and travelled around the US and New Zealand by myself.
NO SURRENDER!!!
